Equus Sanctuary is a safe haven and permanent refuge for homeless or formerly slaughter-bound and abused horses, ponies, and burros.

The beautiful desert preserve is located 70 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. This leased facility (we dream of buying it) has fenced pastures, three large barns, and lodging for the caretakers. The valley is peaceful and quiet. In the summer there is little humidity and no smog. In the winter there is limited rainfall.

The Sanctuary shelters some of the greatest hardship cases .....animals that are blind, crippled, or old,
the sort of horses that few people will keep and care for. Most of these animals were taken from the slaughter pipeline in what would have been their last hours as they were awaiting the truck to take them to a Texas slaughterhouse. We do not ever sell an animal and strongly believe that there should not be a price on a life. That said, having failed in the market once, most of the noble, gentle horses at the Equus Sanctuary would certainly fail again if put back into the market.
Instead, we have committed to letting them live out their lives among their friends in retirement with us. Here at the Equus Sanctuary, they will be given the good home that has eluded them before. Our responsibility is to guarantee that they will never again endure exploitation or abandonment.

These deserving horses have pure mountain water to drink, brought to the ranch by an ancient underground river, and they eat the finest quality hay which is grown in the area. Those who need it receive special senior nutrition. With the help of compassionate supporters, they will live out the remainder of their lives in peace with their physical and emotional needs provided for.The Equus Sanctuary desperately needs donations and grants to continue to rescue and care for the animals at the preserve and to continue our educational effort to awaken concerned people to the tragedy of their abuse. We actively network with other animal protection organizations to supply accurate information about the abuse of horses and have inspired through our information campaigns the emergence of many horse rescue and shelter organizations throughout the country.

The directors and officers of the Equus Sanctuary are all volunteers. We spend our own resources to help pay the huge expenses at the preserve......all donations go directly to benefit the animals.

Please help us to help them!
